Discussing Poverty

For the past one month we have been facilitating about poverty to the students in our Empowerment Clubs.  And according to my observations poverty is the biggest challenge that the people of Kibera are facing.  Because of this we decided to facilitate this topic because we want to help the students know how to overcome poverty.  Also we want to encourage them and let the students know that they should not let poverty stand in the way from achieving their goals.  It was a very sensitive topic to facilitate but to my surprise a student told me that she didn’t know that we have three types of poverty and that it really opened her eyes and that she learned that being poor is not the end of the world- you can still move on by taking every little opportunity you have.  It was interesting and also very motivating to the other students, I really loved it.  This month we are looking forward to facilitating clubs on sickness and disease.
