- Aspirations: Graduate School
- Why Zanaa: I originally joined ZanaA because I was eager to work with an organization that realized the incredible and untapped power that women can have on the world around them when they are given the tools to succeed. I also believe that education is one of the most important and special gifts you can give to a child, and an invaluable right that everyone deserves. I am honored to be working with an organization that is so committed to these ideas.

Bio:
I was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1987 but grew up mostly in a small town in Southeastern Connecticut. After high school, I attended college at the University of Wisconsin Madison where I majored in US History and African American Studies. While at UW I participated in a semester abroad program in Kenya. The program provided me with an internship in Kisumu with Women in the Fishing Industry Project, and organization which gives local women microloans to start their own businesses.
The semester I spent in Kenya left a strong impact on me. Working in Kisumu showed me that giving women opportunities in developing countries improves the lives of their families, their communities and can eventually have a positive global impact. Upon graduating in December of 2009 I began researching positions with nonprofits in the Nairobi area, specifically those targeting women and youth in Kibera. Eventually I met Megan White, founder of ZanaA, online on Nick Kristof’s facebook page. After much emailing, Megan arranged an internship for me with ZanaA in as PR and Communications Officer. I arrived in Nairobi in August of 2010 for a year-long commitment with ZanaA. I am honored and excited to be part of an organization that gives girls the tools to realize their dreams.
